☉︎Vedic Astrology

Jyotisha is one of the six Vedangas, the auxiliary disciplines of the Vedas: the science of time. The Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra laid down its framework of nakshatras, dashas and yogas, computed against the sidereal zodiac rather than the tropical one the West adopted.

It remains a living tradition. In India, matching charts for marriage and electing dates are everyday practice, not revival.

Common questions

What is Vedic astrology (Jyotish)?

India's astrology tradition. It uses the sidereal zodiac (tied to the fixed stars, about 24 degrees behind the tropical one), the 27 nakshatras, and planetary period systems called dashas. The same birth data yields a different, complementary map.

What is a nakshatra?

One of 27 lunar mansions dividing the sidereal zodiac into segments of 13 degrees 20 minutes. The Moon's nakshatra at your birth is treated as a core personality anchor, finer-grained than a sign. Nura computes yours and shows it on every Vedic reading.

What is a dasha?

A planetary period: Vedic astrology divides life into chapters ruled by different planets (the Vimshottari cycle spans 120 years). Which chapter you are in colors the whole period. Nura computes your current dasha and its sub-period from your Moon's nakshatra.
