Definition describes how consistently defined centers connect within a birth chart. Its five forms are Single Definition, Split Definition, Triple Split Definition, Quadruple Split Definition, and No Definition. The category remains tied to the birth chart rather than changing with short-term circumstances. Compare the variants first by the number of separate connected regions, then by how much interaction with different people or settings helps those regions work together.

In detail

Definition is determined by whether the defined centers in a birth chart are joined through continuous defined pathways. One connected component produces Single Definition; two, three, or four disconnected components produce Split, Triple Split, or Quadruple Split Definition. A chart with no defined centers has No Definition. Interpretation is not a ranking of strength or quality. It compares how directly processes circulate within the person, how much outside contact can connect separate components, and whether that bridging need is concentrated or distributed across several gaps.

FAQ

Can your Human Design Definition change over time?
No. Definition is fixed by the way consistently defined centers connect in the birth chart, so age, mood, and temporary surroundings do not change the category. Different environments may make a gap or connection feel more noticeable, but they do not turn Single Definition into Split Definition; check the chart itself rather than recent experience.
What does Definition affect most in Human Design?
It mainly describes how readily internal processes connect and how strongly contact with other people or settings can assist that connection. Single Definition is internally continuous, while increasingly divided forms place more emphasis on bridging separate regions; start with the number of connected components before examining any specific gap.
How is No Definition different from Quadruple Split Definition?
They are structurally different. Quadruple Split Definition still contains defined centers arranged in four disconnected regions, whereas No Definition contains no defined centers at all. The former concerns coordination among several stable regions and the latter concerns responsiveness to outside conditions, so first check whether any centers are defined.
