Natal dignity is established by a planet's zodiacal sign at birth rather than by house placement or aspect. A planet is in domicile when it occupies a sign it rules, exalted in its traditional place of elevation, in detriment opposite its domicile, and in fall opposite its exaltation. The planet supplies a function, while the sign supplies the conditions through which that function must operate. Domicile therefore favors self-command and consistency, exaltation favors prominence and effective expression, detriment removes familiar support, and fall compromises the planet's preferred standard.
